An exclusive place: the one and only Grolla quarry in the world
Grolla is our flagship product: Marmi Faedo is in fact the exclusive owner of the one and only Grolla quarry in the world, which is located a short distance from our company between the municipalities of Cornedo Vicentino and Valdagno.
The passion of the Faedo family for stone goes way back: it was Angelo Faedo who moved the first steps in the stone industry, more than seventy years ago. He then passed the baton to his son Alessandro, who bought the whole quarry in the second half of the Eighties, thereby making Marmi Faedo the only company in the world to extract Grolla hard limestone.
Marmi Faedo has since become the reference point for the domestic market as well as for foreign markets. The company has in fact acquired an important role in the global market and has carried out projects far beyond the borders of Veneto and Italy: from China to the United States, passing through France and Russia.

Unique technical characteristics
The uniqueness of the Grolla hard limestone lies in its exceptional mechanical-technical properties, all of which have been strictly certified.
Grolla is a metamorphic rock made up of 98% calcium carbonate.
Low water absorption, resistance to salt, chlorine, pollution and frost make this natural stone suitable for indoor and outdoor applications.
But that’s not all: Grolla is an extremely resistant and versatile material that lends itself to any type of processing.
Over the years, from the Second World War onwards, the hill in Spagnago lost most of its inhabitants, who migrated to the valley. During the Sixties and the Seventies, the quarries were the main sources in the area: Mora, Rosa, Cengi and many more were bought, one after the other, by Alessandro Faedo in the Eighties.
In the last few years, Marmi Faedo has taken all the necessary measures to maintain the concession by presenting a project that complies with all the relevant regulations. This project has been approved by the Building Commissions of the municipalities of Cornedo vicentino and Valdagno. Today the Grolla quarry is the landmark of the area with stone banks over 50 meters.
An eco-quarry
Marmi Faedo is well aware of the value of nature and the hills: the company manages its quarry with particular attention, carefully controlling any environmental impact. Marmi Faedo, in fact, follows a scrupulous recovery project that provides for the total restoration of the area with the sowing of grass and the planting of trees in parallel with the advancement of the mining activity.
This project has passed the process required by law, receiving full consent from the municipal and provincial commissions and the Council of the Veneto Region as well as that of the “Fondazione dei Verdi”.
The Grolla Quarry has UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 certification, which confirms the use of a growth and development strategy that fully respects the environment, both today and in the future.
Since 2015 we have been greening our quarry. The quarry land will then become agricultural land.
The types of shrubs used for the greening operation are: hornbeam, beech, ash, acacia.
