The Grolla Quarry

When we speak of Made in Italy, we mean it is made right here. The quarry is located just a few kilometers from the company.

The company’s flagship product is Grolla: Marmi Faedo is the exclusive owner of the only Grolla marble quarry in the world, located just a few kilometers from our headquarters, between the municipalities of Cornedo Vicentino and Valdagno.

Scientific studies demonstrate that this extraction area coincides with a volcanic zone that has given the material exceptional technical and mechanical characteristics.

It is from this very territory that Grolla marble comes, processed and finished at the company, requested in dozens of countries worldwide and appreciated by numerous national and international architects and designers.

Our commitment to the
environment

Since 2015, we have been revegetating our quarry. The quarry land will eventually be converted into agricultural land. The types of shrubs mainly used for the revegetation process include: hornbeam, beech, ash, and acacia.

Certified quality Unique technical characteristics

The uniqueness of Grolla marble lies in its exceptional technical and mechanical qualities, all rigorously certified. Grolla is a metamorphic rock composed of 98% calcium carbonate. The low water absorption, resistance to salt, chlorine, pollution and frost make this natural stone suitable for both exterior and interior use. But that’s not all: Grolla marble is an extremely resistant and versatile material that lends itself to any type of processing.

The Faedo family’s passion for marble has distant and well-established origins: Angelo Faedo took the first steps in the stone sector more than seventy years ago. The family patriarch then passed the torch to his son, Alessandro Faedo, who in the second half of the 1980s purchased the entire quarry, becoming today the only company extracting Grolla marble in the entire world.

Since then, Marmi Faedo has become a point of reference in the territory, but also abroad. The company has carved out a space in the global market and has completed projects well beyond the borders of Veneto and Italy: from China to the United States, through France and Russia.

the past

Over the years, following the end of the Second World War, Mount Spagnago became depopulated as its inhabitants migrated toward the valley. Between the 1960s and 1970s, the quarries were the main focus: Mora, Rosa, Cengi, and many others, all of which were acquired by Alessandro Faedo in the 1980s.

the present

In recent years, Marmi Faedo has been committed to maintaining the concession by presenting a plan to safeguard the territory in compliance with all regulations. This plan was approved by the building commissions of Valdagno and Cornedo. Today, the Grolla quarry is the undisputed protagonist of the surrounding landscape, with marble benches exceeding 50 meters.

An eco-quarry

Marmi Faedo understands the value of nature and the mountains: the company manages its quarry with particular care, eliminating exploitation and environmental impact.

Marmi Faedo follows a meticulous restoration plan for the area, involving grass seeding and tree planting alongside the extraction activities. This plan has passed the required regulatory procedures, receiving full approval from municipal and provincial commissions, the Veneto Regional Council, and the Green Foundation.

Since 2021, the Grolla quarry has been UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 certified and pursues development and growth strategies that fully comply with environmental regulations.

A historic marble

Cold, water, salt spray, pollution, high foot traffic, time: Grolla marble remains unaffected by them all.

This is why it can be found in squares, swimming pools, shops, shopping centers, historic buildings, and private villas: facades, flooring, wall coverings, and furnishing elements all bear its countless shades and our signature.
